What is the Inclusive Cycling Experience?

Cycling UK’s exciting new programme, the Inclusive Cycling Experience, is funded by the Motability Foundation; it will support disabled communities in Greater Manchester and Inverness to start cycling.

The scheme offers free try-out sessions and non-standard cycle loans to enable people to consider cycling as an active travel option for everyday journeys.

The Inclusive Cycling Experience programme is available in two regions

Endeavour is a Plymouth-based cycling club catering for military veterans, with a range of different cycles and abilities, including those who use hand cycles and adaptive cycles. This photo features a man using a handcycle as he crosses over a bridge

Loans

The Inclusive Cycling Experience offers free loans of a wide range of bikes and cycles. Our fleet is available in different sizes and with a variety of adaptations to meet your needs, including ebikes and non-standard ecycles.

With cycles provided by top brands, you’ll also receive accessories such as a battery charger (if required), lights and a lock, along with expert support.

Loans range from one day to one month. Subject to demand, there is no limit on how many times you can come back to try out our cycles.

Try-out sessions

Our try-out sessions are designed to support you to find the best fit for your cycling needs, be that an adapted bike, a tandem or trike, we have options to ensure that your needs are catered for.

These free sessions take place in Greater Manchester and Inverness, where experts will be on hand to assess your skills and requirements and guide you, and provide the best cycle for you, giving you the confidence to get riding quickly and easily.

Our team will provide you with a suitable cycle; helmets aren’t necessary, but we can provide one if you want – or you can bring your own.

During the session we will:

  • Show you how to operate a cycle based on your needs
  • Provide a traffic-free space for you to try out your cycle and develop your skills and confidence
  • Top tips when cycling through interactive activities

The session will cover some cycling skills, but rest assured; there is no test, pass or fail involved. We aim to give you all the skills and advice you need to start your cycling journey confidently.

Who can take part?

In order to take part, you must be

  • Over the age of 16
  • A resident living in Greater Manchester or Inverness

Please note

  • Only open to people who are disabled, have a long-term health condition or self-identify as disabled. We have cycles in order that non-disabled people can cycle alongside a disabled person should they wish to book together
  • There is no need to attend a skills and confidence session event to apply for a loan
